Ahmad Reza Khazaei, in an exclusive interview with IRNA in Arak on Tuesday, added that there are 1,790,000 foreigners based on the 2016 census, of which 90 percent, i.e. 1,580,000, are Afghans.
He said, '1,200,000 foreign nationals are legally residing and are regarded as the target community for benefiting from the social security services.
Director General for Foreign Nationals Affairs of the Social Security Organization continued, '35,000 foreign nationals, living in Iran, had insurance coverage by the end of last Iranian year, and this year, 7,000 foreigners are under the Social Security insurance umbrella, which includes 78,000 over-dependent people.
Khazaei said Iraqi, Turkish, Pakistani, American, and Canadian nationals account for about 10 percent of the social security insurers.
He added that 34,887 people, equivalent to 82 percent of the total foreign nationals, who are covered by the social security organization, were men and 7,122 people, or 18 percent, were women.
